Christopher Eccleston to be villain in “Thor: The Dark World”

Marvel Studios is in the process of signing Christopher Eccleston (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) on to play the main villain in the second installment of the Thor franchise, Thor: The Dark World. Eccleston will take on the role of Malekith, the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim. Most of the cast from the first film are returning for the sequel, including Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Stellan Skarsgard as Erik Selvig, and of course Chris Hemsworth as the titular character Thor. Eccleston is best known for his portrayal of Doctor Who in the 2005 season of BBC‘s Doctor Who. He is also known for his role in 28 Days Later as the sadistic Major Henry West. So far the plot of The Dark World is greatly unknown but the reveal of Malekith as the villain gives us some insight. Thor: The Dark World premieres November 8, 2013.
