We originally reported on the great supporting cast (Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt) that Ridley Scott (Prometheus) has enlisted for his film based on Cormac McCarthy‘s first original screenplay, The Counselor. The film centers around a well respected lawyer (Michael Fassbender) taking an interest in the cocaine industry and what happens as he brings in Reiner (Bardem), a rich acquaintance, and a shady character named Westray (Pitt). It now appears that Spanish actress Penelope Cruz is in talks to join this already impressive cast. She seems to be circling the female lead, which was once thought to be the role that Angelina Jolie was up for. There is now word from THR that Jolie is on a tight schedule and may not be able to play the protagonist’s love interest as she starts shooting Maleficent in June. The more I hear about this, the more excited I get. I can’t wait for these deals to be finalized and for production to start.
