We are hearing reports that Ray Winstone (London Boulevard, Snow White and the Huntsman) is in talks to take on the role of antagonist in Noah, the new film being directed by Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan). Winstone is quite the powerhouse when let loose and has always had a magnetic screen presence. After seeing him in Sexy Beast opposite Ben Kingsley (The Dictator), I knew this was an actor to keep an eye on. He’s had supporting roles all over the place since and has always managed to excel. The role which was apparently also offered to Liam Neeson (Battleship), Liev Schriber, and Val Kilmer is a very demanding role since Aronofsky was looking to find an actor who could physically hold his own against Russell Crowe (The Next Three Days) while also having matching acting chops. I’m actually glad to hear of this news since Schriber has never really impressed me and I didn’t see him having what it takes to take any real screen time away from Crowe. With this news, there is only more central character (Noah’s wife) left to cast, the role has been rumored to have been offered to many actresses including Jennifer Connelly (The Dilemma) and Julianne Moore (Crazy, Stupid, Love). Emma Watson (My Week with Marilyn) replaced Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, Noah’s sons will be played by Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and Douglas Booth (The Pillars of the Earth). With the cast close to being finalized, Aronofsky is sure to start shooting next month in New York and Iceland right after. Noah arrives in theaters March 28th, 2014.
