Swedish director Tomas Alfredson is apparently interested in adapting Astrid Lindgren‘s children’s novel, The Brothers Lionheart. The filmmaker’s latest film, the fantastic spy-thriller Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, has received lots of praise and provided the director with access to bigger properties such as this. It will be interesting to see whether Alfredson will actually be able to get the film made, as the novel is quite dark and bleak which is generally something that major studios would steer clear of. The Brothers Lionheart deals with the story of two brothers who live in a fantasy world, something akin to an afterlife, and join a group who are trying to depose the tyrannical ruler of the kingdom. If this does get made, I hope Alfredson is able to maintain the bleak tone of the story while telling an intriguing and fascinating story, much like he did with his adaptation of Let The Right One In. In the meantime, it is expected that the director will take on other projects which are further along in their development. Stay tuned for any news on that front.
